Maryn and Avery both got to go to Girl's Camp this summer! The Midland Stake allows girls who are going into 7th grade, even if they're not 12 yet, so Avery was able to go!! They were both super excited, and so was I! I didn't get any pics of them leaving, and am so sad I didn't! Ugh!
They had a great week! The weather was perfect, and they made a lot of new friends. The leaders were amazing, and the whole camp just really had a special spirit about it. I was able to go up on Friday to help out in the kitchen and am so grateful for the opportunity. I was able to catch a glimpse of what they got to experience the whole week. The camp is gorgeous, and like I said before, the whole thing was really well scheduled and very spiritual.
In the kitchen, the cook had an incentive for the girls to go above and beyond their regular daily "kapers". If they did more, they got to have a homemade cinnamon roll after dinner. Whoever won the cleanest cabin for the day also got to have homemade cinnamon rolls. It was a coveted treat. She did this every day, too! Wow!
I also got to stay for Skit Night, and I am sooooo glad I did!! It was hilarious, and such a glimpse into each cabin full of girls and leaders. You could tell who was having soooo much fun, and see the friendships that had blossomed that week. It also gave each girl a chance to shine, and I loved seeing each one do that.
Not to boast, but my girls really did a fantastic job! Maryn was so funny in her skit, and had the whole barn cracking up! Avery was also super dynamic, and really strong leader among her cabin. I would've never know had I not been there! It is something that I will treasure. My little girls are becoming young women now!! They are becoming strong forces for good and friendship and righteousness. I am so proud of them.
It struck me this year that going to Girl's Camp is, of course, about the F-U-N!! But it is also about so much more. It is about the girls, their testimonies, the lasting friendships, and feeling the Spirit. It was an opportunity for them, and I'm so grateful they had this!
We picked them up on Saturday, and they were beaming! Such a testament to how great this week was!
They also stank like some serious bug spray, so there's that too. Haha!
